The Department of Library and Information Science fosters information professionals who can serve in a diverse range of fields and in a dynamically changing global information environment.
Overview
Library and information science(LIS) is an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary field that applies the practices, perspectives, and tools of management, information technology, education, and other areas to libraries. Library studies deal with the collection, organization, preservation, and dissemination of information resources; and the political economy of information. We educate students through library and information science courses to fulfill careers, professional leadership, lifelong learning, social responsibility, and technological mastery. We provide students with facilities to practice their knowledge and skills on campus, and practical opportunities are always open to all students by working in the library or media center.

Career
On completion of the courses, students gain a librarian certificate and become certified librarians. As a certified librarian, there are multiple ways for a student to pursue their interests and obtain a rewarding career within the diverse fields of LIS. There are still many other ways to specialize their study in this field and the list of career paths below will help students identify ways of focusing their professional interests. If they want to obtain a certificate or licence for working in a particular aspect or area(ex. reading specialists, instructional media specialists), there are many courses to help them obtain the knowledge and skills needed for doing that.
