Important notes for applicants of Korean origin
Education
- Applicants of Korean origin should complete the 12 years of studying abroad that is equivalent to the entire primary and secondary education in Korea. If they were enrolled in a school in Korea for any time period during the 12-year education period, the eligibility of application will not be approved. (However, each university should confirm an avoidable case of studying in Korea for a while. Also, the exception within 1 semester is allowed to the transfer applicants who have completed the primary-to-the-secondary education for more than 12 years in 2 or more countries.)
- Applicants of Korean origin who studied in countries that practice a period of less than 12 years for primary to secondary education are approved if it is deemed equivalent to primary to secondary education in Korea, according to Item 9 of Paragraph 1 of Article 98 of the Primary and Secondary Education Law. (However, Koreans who completed their entire education together in one country and in another country (including Korea) are not approved as the same case.)
- The education requirements for applicants of Korean origin are only for the applicants, which means that the period of their parents living or staying abroad is not considered for any requirement of the applicants admission.

Application eligibility for foreign applicants
Foreigners whose both parents are foreigners :
Are eligible when they have completed 12 years of education from the primary to the secondary level, whether the attended school is located in a foreign country or in Korea (like an international school in Korea.)Foreigners who completed education from the primary to the secondary level :
Completed the years of studying abroad equivalent to the entire primary and secondary education in Korea. If they were enrolled in a school in Korea for any time period during the 12-year education, the eligibility of application would not be approved.Less-than-12-year education system
Approved when foreigners studied in a country where such a system is practiced, according to Item 9 of Paragraph 1 of Article 98 of the Primary and Secondary Education Law.
- The education requirements for foreign applicants are only for the applicants, which means that the period of their parents living or staying abroad is not considered for any requirement of applicants admission.
Important notes for North Korean refugees
Application eligibility for foreign applicants (the Primary and Secondary Education Law):
- North Korean refugees who try to be certified with education equivalent to the 12-year period of the Korean education system can be certified if a superintendent acknowledges it through the screening committee, in accordance to the primary and secondary education law.
- The nation of the schools for primary to secondary education does not affect the eligibility of the application.
Transfer applicants
As eligible for admission as foreign applicants,
For a transfer to the sophomore year, they should complete 1 year (2 semesters) in 4-year colleges in foreign countries or in Korea, be more than equivalent to such an education level, or have graduated (be expected to graduate) from a community college
For a transfer to the junior year, they should complete 2 years (4 semesters) in 4-year colleges in foreign countries or in Korea, be more than equivalent to such an education level, or have graduated (be expected to graduate) from a community college.
