KIU Overseas Language Training Programs

Goals

  • To improve English proficiency through training in English-speaking countries
  • To develop authentic language-related abilities through individual and group work
  • To Foster the global and enterprising spirit through overseas experience

Date : 4 weeks during the summer and the winter break

Place

  • The University of Sheffield (England)
  • Asia Pacific College and Cebu Doctors University (Philippines)

Country Details
Philippines
  • 1 to 1 (2 hrs) with a Filipino teacher
  • 1 to 4 (2 hrs) with a Filipino teacher
  • 1 to 8 (2hrs) with a native teacher of English or a Filipino teacher
  • One elective course (TOEIC or Screen English)
  • School dormitory
  • Field trips, traveling, and volunteer work on weekends
England
  • Classes with 12 to 15 students (09:00 - 15:00)
  • Students from Asia and Europe
  • Discussion-based classes with a group of 3 to 5 students
  • School dormitory
  • Field trips, traveling, and volunteer work on weekends

Application and selection

  1. Time : Every April and September
  2. The place to apply : The team of student affairs
  3. Eligibility
    • Current students (not students with a leave of absence) qualified for overseas traveling
    • Students who took more than 15 credit hours in the preceding semester
    • Other unqualified applicants: Those who are studying in their last semester
  4. Selection method: Application document screening
  5. Required documents :
    • application form
    • consent form
    • transcript
    • certificate of an official English test like TOEIC (only those who have a certificate)

Selection criteria

  1. The grade in the preceding semester (The GPA for those who have the same grade)
    • The university entrance scores for Freshmen in the first semester (within 25 percent of the selection)
  2. Students from low-income families (within 15 percent of the selection)
  3. A limited number of students from each department (within 15 percent of the selection)
  4. Additional points awarded to those who submit a certificate of an official English test
  5. There is a separate selection portion for those who have an academic scholarship. When no such students apply, this portion will be supplied with other students.
