KYUNGIL UNIVERSITY College of IT convergence

The message from dean of the college of IT convergence

By integrating into a global economy in an age of trade liberalization our world has entered a new era of limitless competition. For the survival and revival of every nation, countries today are paying attention to barriers for trade and technology. As a result they have been supporting the development of their own science and technology based on the conception that high technical skills are a national power. This has become evident in the fact that every production facility and the general environment in our lives are getting more and more automated and the application of related technology has been expanded. Therefore, under the goal of producing experts with leadership, demanded by each part of our industrial society, the college of IT convergence is focusing on the education and research development for interactions among various study areas and disciplines which are directly or indirectly associated with it.

Introduction

IT-based convergence of traditional industries is a core basic technology for the consilience of various engineering areas and it needs active collaboration among related departments and divisions. The college of IT convergence has reorganized and expanded to independent college units composed of 7 major departments (Mechanical & Automotive, electronic, information and communications, computer, cyber security, applied robotics and, railway and electrical engineering) and it is establishing an infrastructure that makes it a successful business.

Each department in the college has a specialized major track and in the long term the college will dedicate itself to collaboration with industries by providing an opportunity to practice in industries related to IT convergence in order to produce tailored talented people who are required for development of local and national industries. Based on electrical theory and technology, communication and computer engineering, and through the integration of education sectors and technology, the college will continue to educate and foster talented and creative experts who will be a driving power in the future development of our nation.

Our strategic plan is 1) to provide field based education by running the interdisciplinary course work program and many kinds of internship programs that derive from local and national industrial personnel that participate and relate to college education, 2) to reflect the result of IT convergence related research to laboratory and practice education and 3) to develop the education of convergence technology and industrial demand oriented technology. We are reinforcing field-based practical education by utilizing lab facilities with state-of-the-art equipment for convergence of each major to produce creative and interdisciplinary competitive engineers. The college also has a specialized and systematized curriculum for students acquiring specialized knowledge from various areas including electronics, information and communications, computers, cyber security, applied robotics and, railway and electrical engineering.
