Last March, KIU created a special English program and lecture series organized by its foreign professors to promote friendship and the mutual exchange of ideas and opinions among its foreign faculty and students. On May 2nd, KIU conducted its fifth special program titled ‘How to draw a face’.

After a brief introduction and lecture about beauty and symmetry from Mr. Jones, three of the professors; David Sutton (36, Canada), Gregory Jones (28, Canada), and Jennifer Crawley (30, New Zealand), accompanied by 24 students, sat together and started drawing their face based on the instructions of a video lecture. Some of them, the students and professors alike, laughed in embarrassment at first because of their drawing, but the atmosphere soon became more serious.

Yi-Seul Yoon, a junior chemical engineering major said, “I had been thinking that the drawing of objects is only for students who major in fine arts or who are artists, but I have come to realize that drawing is very interesting, especially when the professors helped us go through step-by-step. I would like to draw my parents' face too.

Similarly, Sung-Hong Kim, a junior social welfare major commented, ‘it was very meaningful to me having the opportunity to converse with the foreign teachers and other friends since we do not have much time to do so. I would like to participate in all of the programs from now on”.

There will be special lectures held continuously throughout the year, topics include; ice hockey, American football, art, music, travel, camping and making Youtube videos. They will be held on every Thursday throughout the rest of the semester at the Department of International Interaction.

An official from the department said, “ We created these classes after reviewing students’ opinions under the slogan of KIU, ‘2013 Kollabo’ and the program participation rate is much higher than we expected.  For a couple of the classes, like the last lecture for example, we were forced to turn down a few applications because the quota for seats was at capacity. We also offer various programs such as English debate, free talking and IELTS lecturing at the moment to help develop a global mindset.
