Tae Yeon Kim, a KIU student who majors in social welfare, was awarded the grand prize of ‘the 25th Youth Award’, selected by Daegu city.
His steady and consistent pattern of volunteering, totaling 6 years and 7 months, has been recognized as he received a certificate of commendation from both the Dalseo-Gu District Volunteer Center in 2010 and the Daegu Volunteer Center in 2011. This is of course in addition to receiving the award of KIU volunteer king.
Mr. Kim stated on being awarded, “When I first came to elderly care facilities, I was filled with a vague sense of duty for volunteering. But now, I feel mentally healthy and also feel a sense of happiness and healthiness while volunteering. I will keep doing volunteer work with a caring and sacrificial heart so as to not bring shame to the award.
The Chief of Social Service Center, Tae Young Um, who recommended Mr. Kim, said, “I really am impressed by his compassionate and full hearted work on school activities, such as providing social services and assisting those with disabilities. Moreover, he enthusiastically does it on a regular basis. I am so proud of the fact that a student who studies at KIU received the award. KIU will continue to take the lead in training volunteers.
Meanwhile, the Social Service Center of KIU is trying to find a systematic and practical way to support local community organizations with professional social workers by providing semi-professional voluntary activities related to each major. The records over the past year, including photos of Mr. Kim’s volunteering, are installed in local community service centers and other related organizations. |
