Professor Young Soon Jaegal, a professor of Free Major in science track at Kyungil University, was selected as a winner of the 10th prize of the Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry.

Professor Jaegal has been committed to developing a new conducting polymer material and gave 380 papers (including 310 papers published in SCI with a total of over3,500 citations) on the results of his research and also has been recognized around the world for his research over the last 30 years in high polymer chemistry. Specifically, he introduced his research about synthetic derivatives of polyacetylene on Chemical Reviews, which is the top ranked chemical-related magazine of citation index, in 2000, and has been quoted more than 280 times in many news and magazine articles.

Professor Jaegal stated that he is now concentrating on synthesizing a new functional material and maximizing the research efficiency through a collaborative study with Busan University, KAIST, Postech, The Catholic University of Korea and Pukyung University.

Also, he has been continuously listed in one of the world’s three biographical dictionaries, ‘Marquis Who’s Who’ from 2001, was awarded the Defense Science Award in 1993, the 2002 Best Paper Award from the Polymer Society of Korea and in 2009, the Academic Research Award from the Kyungbuk National Science and Technology Award.

The award was presented at the ‘2013 Spring General Assembly and Conference’, held at the Juju International Convention Center on May 2nd.
