Kyungil University (www.kiu.ac.kr) acquired its ‘Web Accessibility Certification Mark’ (WA Mark) on September 6th, 2013. The WA Mark confirms that the accessibility of the website meets a standard of excellence to the public, including to disabled individuals. This mark is only granted after passing an authentication judgment from the Human Rights Forum of Disabled Persons in Korea.
From September 2013, KIU has been working on renewing the home page, not only for the general public, but also for those with disabilities and the elderly. KIU successfully obtained the WA Mark and this is especially meaningful since the verification test was handled by disability experts throughout the process.
The WA certification mark is the first domestic mark, which began in February 2007 and typifies 3 levels of verification of the quality: fundamental assessment, closer inspection (peer review), and finally a usability evaluation. The verification has a high level of objectivity and fairness as the evaluation is conducted during a short period of time.
KIU announced that this event, the acquisition of the WA Mark, will boost concerns on providing universal service to all users (including the disabled and elderly), and it will also keep doing its best in being a leading public institution in social responsibility. |
