‘TRIZ’ is "a problem-solving, analysis and forecasting tool derived from the study of patterns of invention in global patent literature" and is widely used in colleges and companies in and outside of Korea. Samsung, LG, POSCO, GE and Intel have used TRIZ methods to create creativity in education and build problem solving skills.

The KIU Engineering Education Innovation Center held its 3rd ‘Dream Gate Camp’ for 3days and 2 nights from June 25 to 27 at Pyungsan Academy in Chilgok. About 31 students from 12 different departments made 5 teams and implemented the TRIZ project while exchanging and explaining the ideas of their majors.

Students had the opportunity to improve their abilities to solve problems while implementing the tasks which were like domino style events. Each team made its own task and the final 5 tasks were chain-reacted. Also students were challenged to take the TRIZ Level 1 test which grants a license that can be used internationally. The test was based on material learned in TRIZ camp.

Kim Young Bin who participated in this camp said, “Even though I am not an engineering student, I could have done the task through storytelling by myself but this made my task different from others. It was a great chance to learn the importance of creative thinking.”

The KIU Engineering Education Innovation Center is planning to have a variety of events like a ‘Camp for Creativity and Fusion’ and a ‘Camp for Happiness Techniques’ in hopes of improving our students’ creative thinking abilities for this upcoming fall semester.
