KIU, a start-up business leader, hosted a training program for excellent students for 8 days and 6 nights in Silicon Valley, a place known as the mecca of start-up businesses.
KIU has hosted a start-up business training program abroad once or twice a year to spread entrepreneurship and foster a global mindset since 2011. 18 students participated in this program from August 17th to 24th. Those students were selected after in depth interviews were conducted among superior students from start-up business groups, start-up business lectures, and start-up business competitions. All of the expenses of the training program were paid for.
The University of California, Berkeley was the first place visited and they also visited the Intel Museum, KOTRA, KITECH, Stanford University, and the headquarters of Google. They took in lectures and attended a workshop.
Baek, Chul Min, a junior mechanical engineering major, pointed out that the technology of unmanned vehicles can be abused as an unmanned bomb and questioned how they will prevent this at the meeting with the researchers when they visited google.
Students were encouraged when they saw the ‘Ferrari concept car’ figure that was made by Korean college students’ team after a contest exhibit in an show room at AUTODESK Inc. in San Francisco.
Cho Dae-Han, a junior architecture major, expressed that he thought he needed to research more about the way how to harmonize creativity and practicality while looking at the future oriented design of concept cars and the idea of describing details of dinosaurs using LEGOs.
They also had chance to visit related institutions and the KOTRA branch that supports Korean companies in the US, and thus they listened to lectures from Kim Byung-Ho, the executive director, and Dr. Lee Gu-Hyung, and know-hows from the director of Gwak of STIC investment company.
A professor from the architecture department, Um Shin-Jo said, it will help not only spreading entrepreneurship, but also boost a global mindset for our students from this training and it will be a priceless experience. He stated that he is sure in the very near future we will have a global company. |
