A Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Fifteen-Story Second Residence Hall

Kyungil University starts to construct the second residence hall that has one basement level and is fifteen stories high and accommodates about six hundred students.

Haw Sung Industrial Co., Ltd. was selected for the construction and will first shovel earth on December 21st and complete the dormitory by December 31st, 2013.
The second residence hall will be located behind the current dormitory cafeteria, and it consists of two ferroconcrete buildings, with the buildings 1,070m² and the gross floor area about 14,000m²
The second residence hall will have 260 rooms (two per room), including rooms for physically challenged residents, and many facilities like guest rooms, a convenient store, conference rooms, and a fountain fall. One official at KIU stated, "The second residence hall will be a pleasant place like a hotel where an automated security system, a wireless internet network, a heating and cooling system on the ceiling, and a heating system on the floor are installed and each room has a bathroom.

KIU will be proud of accommodating 35 % of the entire students, which is the largest capacity among the neighboring universities, with the current dormitories housing about 1,300 students and the second residence hall about 600 students.

When many universities construct dormitories, they prefer BTL (Build-Transfer-Lease), which guarantees profits for a determined period by attracting private capital. However, KIU uses its own fund since the BTL system causes residents to pay a high fee. On top of that, residents are likely to make complaints if a construction company runs dormitories. KIU decides to build its own fun in order to guarantee students' convenience and lessen their financial burden.

As the number of residents is larger, the dormitory cafeteria will be extended from 635m² to 751m². The residents do not have to have their meal, based on the fixed menu and hours; instead, they will be allowed to eat their meal at any cafeteria on campus and have a sandwich and milk when they do not feel like having a regular meal.
