The Department of Satellite Geoinformatics Engineering at Kyungil University is proudly participating in the ‘DRAGON Campaign Activity’ on behalf of the Daegu and Kyungbook area.

Effective in 2012, South Korea, Japan and China are taking part in the DRAGON Campaign which observes aerosol levels. This will be done by installing an air pollution detector and sun photometer at KIU.

In the west, the observation equipment will be intensively installed on the western island

and in the metropolitan area. Whereas, in the east, at Gangneung University, as well as in Busan, which includes Kyungil University. This is being done in order to figure out different kinds of air pollutants within the country.

Professor Lee Kyeun Ho of the Satellite Geoinformatics Engineering Department states, “The DRAGON Program will help monitor the atmospheric phenomenon, verify dates from the satellite and quantify the climate change effect. Particularly, for the KIU students, it will be a good opportunity to use the equipment which is exactly the same as the one used at NASA.
The observation equipment is now located on the rooftop of the Satellite Geoinformatics Engineering Department building for 24 hours and the observed live data will be uploading on the NASA website. The website address is aeronet.gsfc.nasa.gov/new_web/DRAGON-Asia_ 2012_Japna_South_Korea.

and this program will be operated until June of this year.
