KIU Geoinformatics Engineering students participated in the ���2012 Digital Geospatial Expo��� and received numerous awards. The 2012 SMART Geospatial Expo, which was hosted by the Ministry of Land, was held from the 10th to 12th of October at COEX in Seoul. There were various special events held to help lay a foundation for more convenient living and working conditions, such as; international conferences, a trade fair, and a job fair. Specifically, the purpose of the ���Brilliant Idea Competition��� was to expand the use of spatial information and develop cutting-edge technology.

4 KIU students, including Kim Woo-Hyun (a senior in the Geoinformatics Engineering Department), won a first place prize for creating an application called ���DPENS���, which is able to minimize natural disaster damage through spatial analysis technology.
Moreover, 7 other students participated, including Hong Myung-Won (a 3rd year student), who won a second place prize for creating an application called ���Lighthouse���, which was made for preventing the sexual crimes.
The application ���DPENS��� is designed for real-time communication between the public and disaster administrators, which allows for prompt action through the Kelner Density Estimation Technique.
The Lighthouse application focuses on preventing sexual crimes in advance by providing users with reliable data which keeps track of the movement of sexual offenders.
KIU Professor Cho Myung-Hee and Ann Jae-Sung stated, ���Our great accomplishments are the direct result of our on-site practice-based education. I will try to nurture the spatial information industry and maintain this momentum in the future by supporting brilliant and promising students.���

KIU student Kim Woo-Hyun said, ���I am really pleased about what we have accomplished together. I hope to continue to develop my ideas into future smart technology by using the latest spatial information.���
