The 2012 Seoul Design Festival, held at COEX in Seoul, is one of the largest design-specialized and conceptual exhibitions. This year marks the 11th year of the event and it has begun to spread to other trendy cities. The Seoul Design Festival focuses on several special thematic exhibitions entitled “Agriculture and Design”, that will propose a total design solution for

domestic brands of fruits with designers’ creative ideas. The event was held from the 12th to 16th of December and about 30 students majoring in Industrial Design at KIU took part in the exhibition.

They exhibited 24 handcrafts including the “Cookie-Coffee” and the “Moisturized Flowerpot”, both of which received high praise and good press from the festival. Besides the two aforementioned products, the “Christmas Tree” also received high praise and has already received 5 orders from visitors even with its high price.

The students were attempting to express their creativity through experimental ideas, and the festival allowed participating designers to successfully promote themselves and expand their territories.
The design festival also aims to improve life and free spirit by showing the value of materials.

Industrial Design student Go Hye Jin said, “I was really flattered that I could compete with the professional designers. And I could feel a bit more confident because of this opportunity.”
