With various support, such as: ‘office hour,’ leisure activities, and culture class, KIU dormitories have become a place of happiness for students.

University dormitories are a desired place that everyone dreams of at least once during their college years. With a mixture of worry and hope after leaving home, students meet people in this new environment and share their new living space. Their campus, a place where they study and live, becomes their new community. It becomes a place where individuals care for one another as if they are living with their siblings or childhood friends.Their life on campus is a privilege that one can only experience while living in a university dormitory..

Along with Ilcheongkwan, the towering landmark housing state-of-the-art facilities at the University, KIU dormitories, which are far ahead in all aspects, including: size, facilities, and welfare system, have been evolving. The dormitories that served only as a residential area in the past have stepped forward and transformed into a place of happiness for students.

KIU dormitories have started the “Office hour” system this year and offer tutoring for primary subjects. Professors who teach Physics and Chemistry—the subjects that freshmen students feel are most difficult—as well as those of English and Math, are stationed in the dormitories and assist students one on one reviewing some parts of the material that the students didn’t understand in class.

In addition, a culture class is offered in the evening to help take care of students’ health, which  can be neglected while being away from home and the class also includes cultural activities. Participants enjoy their leisure time through various programs, such as movie forums, guitar and billiard lessons, and yoga. If their attendance rate is satisfactory, they receive a full refund for their attendance fees.

Lifestyles in the dormitories have also changed a lot. They have reduced roll calls at night and expanded students’ freedom. With each individual’s different lifestyle acknowledged, students can now have breakfast at their desired time in the cafeteria, convenience store, or restaurants, whereas in the past, those who got up late could not have breakfast. Starting from this year, each room has a refrigerator, so students can keep their food there, such as side dishes or herbal tonics that their parents send from their hometown. Additionally, each floor has a kitchen, and they can cook for themselves in the evening or at night.

Hyun Tae Chung, the president of KIU said, “I felt sorry for the newcomers to the University dormitories because it took them a long time to adjust to their college life due to the new environment, so I arranged various programs for them. One third of KIU students live in the dormitories, so they are the most cherished places on campus. I will keep paying a lot of  attention to them to make sure that they become a place of happiness for students.
