The GOP (Gambling Over Project) in the department of nursing at Kyungil University (advisor: Soyeon You in the department of nursing) has been selected as the ‘undergraduate’s gambling over project’, sponsored by the Korean Center On Gambling Problems, in order to prevent and eradicate undergraduate’s gambling problems and to spread a sound leisure culture on campus for three consecutive years.

The Korean Center On Gambling Problems, a government agency tasked with preventing problem gambling and curing and rehabilitating addicts, was selected and announced 30 university clubs over the country, including Kyungil University as ‘undergraduate’s gambling over project in 2016’ on March 16th.

The GOP (Gambling Over Project) club at Kyungil University, which was selected this year, is made up of 50 students enrolled in the department of nursing and is planning to do various activities. From now on, the club will be officially supported by the Korean Center On Gambling Problems, and this will include support for an event on the day to fight gambling addiction,  invited expert lecturers both inside and outside the campus, and a campaign through SNS.

Soyeon You, an advisor for the GOP club (in the department of nursing), said “helping people who are suffering from psychiatric problems as well as physical disease and injury could be a great opportunity to cultivate the qualities of a nurse.”

The GOP club, meanwhile, has won the grand prize and participation prize for two years in a row in the contest  evaluating the preventive action groups held at the end of every year.
