340 high school students from the Yeongnam region participated in the competition, expecting to improve their health and make good use of their leisure time.
The 2nd annual KIU president’s badminton competition for high school students in the Yeongnam region was held on Saturday, June 11th at the KIU sports complex. At this competition, 340 students who are from approximately 70 different high schools located in the Busan and Gyeongnam region as well as from the Deagu, Gyeongbuk region, participated. A total of 171 teams, respectively composed of 57girls’ teams and 114 boys’ teams which consisted of two members each, participated in this competition and competed for the championship.
Through badminton, which is a popular public sport with easy access and has a high exercise effect, the KIU badminton competition (which started last year) is expected to contribute to the improvement of health and make a good use of the leisure time of high school students in the Gyeongsang area.
In the women’s competition, the B team of Pohang Jungang Girls’ High School won the championship and the B team of Gyeongbuk Girls’ High School got second place. The D team of Gyeongbuk Girls’ High School and the A team of Gilwon Girls’ High School jointly ranked in third place. In the men’s competition, the A team of Deagu Jeil High School earned the glory of winning the competition. The Dong-A High School B team ranked in second place, while the Gyeong-ju Business High School A team and the Yeongcheon High School C team came in third. All ranked teams respectively received a prize and a scholarship.
Meanwhile, last year (which was the first year of this badminton competition), a total of 350 high school students consisting of 175 teams (two players per team) participated in this sporting event. The A team of Gyeongbuk Girls’ High School received first place in the women’s final and the Gyeong-ju Business High School A team won the championship in the men’s final last year. |
