The research power of an undergraduate, whose major is computer engineering in Kyungil University (President Jung Hyun Tae), is being recognized nationwide. ‘The design and realization of the equipment for smartphone data recovery’ by a team of undergraduates, Kim Eun Ji and Youn Dong Hui (advisor Ha Il Gyu), received an excellent thesis award for its superiority of research content in the ‘Spring Conference of the Korea Multimedia Society in 2016’ held in Seoul Women’s University from Friday, May 27thtoSaturdaythe28th.

The team leader, Kim Eun Ji said “the more the supply rates and utilization of smartphones increases, the importance of smartphone data increases. But there’s not enough equipment for lost data to be recovered. That’s the motive for our research.” And she also said “henceforth, I’d like to develop equipment that can increase the rate of recovery and make the deletion completely through a variety of techniques such as directory scanning and file carving.”

This award is the second one following the excellent thesis award in the ‘Spring Conference of Korea Multimedia Society in 2015’ held in May last year. The students’ outstanding research power has been constantly recognized. This team was also selected as ‘EVE-WA ICT mentoring business’ sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future planning in 2016 and will have been running the project until this October.

Moreover, on Friday, June 3rd,ateamcomposedofKimChan,LeeHyeKyung,KoSungBae,andLeeJaeSung(advisorHaIlGyu)whoaremembersinthesciencegroupKICOMofcomputerengineeringdepartment,wasselectedas‘2016UndergraduateResearchProgram(URP)’supportedbytheMinistryofEducationandKorea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. This research has a title ‘development of monitoring system for human life disaster in mountain activities by utilizing drones’ and is going along from this June through November, with the research funding of ten million Korean won. This selection in the URP is the second one following last year’s selection and the students’ outstanding research power in computer engineering department has been continuously recognized on the national stage.

‘EVE-WA ICT mentoring business’ is the one that is sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future planning and is supporting the research of female college students studying natural sciences and engineering. ‘Undergraduate Research Program (URP)’ is a program that selects the excellent research teams in the universities nationwide every year and supports the research in the field of intensive major courses and creative fusion.
