KIU will select 270 new students for admission, supported by a maximum of 700 million won a year.

Kyung-Il University, whose president is Jung Hyun-Tae, was selected for the ‘Lifelong learning program’ under the supervision of the Ministry Of Education and will be subsidized for a maximum of 700 million won a year by the government.

The ‘Lifelong learning program’ has been arranged for the lifelong learning of adult learners such as baby-boomers and they will be ‘learning after graduation’ and ‘returning to school’ through this program. KIU will start to run an academic degree course and non-degree program by selecting 270 new students for admission in 2017.

Academic degree courses for incumbents are based on the local industrial base and future industry such as auto components industry and ICT-machinery convergence industry. Three departments of KIU which are; auto smart components industry department, industrial system management department, and industry management department, will select 80 freshmen students. Lifelong learners who are working at local industries will get an opportunity to acquire a degree as well as improve their job competency.

On the other hand, non-degree courses will provide innovation management programs for business CEOs. Non-degree courses also include re-employment and starting a business programs for adult learners, retirees, and women whose careers are discontinued. Furthermore, they will have opportunities to take a credit approval process if they register for regular subject classes related to business administration and emergency services.

Lee Hong-Bae, the chief of the KIU social education center, stated that “Since the technical college, open university, and Kyungbuk industrial university which KIU formerly was, KIU has been in charge of higher education for industrial manpower who have greatly contributed  to the modernization and industrialization of Korea.” He emphasized that, “Accumulated experience and infrastructure will create a synergy effect with the continuing education center which will complete the construction of its building located at Beomeo intersection next year.”
