  Mutual Cooperation to Foster Professional Manpower in Continuous Support for Crime Victims

  Kyungil University (President Chung Hyun-tae) and the Daegu Smile Center (Head Kim Jeong-beom) concluded an agreement at the Medium Conference Hall in KIU on Monday, September 26th.

  The two institutions decided to join efforts for the following agreement: education and publicity activities to support crime victims, business cooperation to support the victims quickly, and joint participation in talent donation and social contribution activities. Each agreement specifically aims at supporting crime victims and cultivating professional manpower.

  The Daegu Smile Center, as a Ministry of Justice-affiliated organization, was established in 2014 and has been in operation since. Followed by Seoul, Busan, Gwangju, and Incheon, the center has taken charge of helping crime victims and their family’s quickly  recover mentally through systematic and professional psychology consultation and medical mental health treatment so that they can get back to their everyday life. KIU has also tried its best in setting up a training center which cultivates professional caretakers, who are experts in the relevant field, and has fostered professionals by fusing two majors together, Police Department majors and majors from the Psychology Department as a part of special project within the university. 

  President Chung said, “It is one of our social responsibilities that we should help crime victims and their families to live an ordinary life. With the conclusion of this agreement, the accumulated knowledge from the relevant fields can offer a golden opportunity to create shared values through the mutual exchanges between the two institutions.”

  In addition, Kim Jeong-beom, head of the Daegu Smile Center, made himself a promise, “We will try to make students be born again as experts through a wealth of field experience. We also wish to arrange various new forums for exchanges which not only belong to field practice, but also to joint conferences of the two institutions.”
