KIU Fashion Design Students Win Awards in Fashion Design Contest, the Largest Ceremony in the Region.

Students and Graduates of KIU’s School of Design (Major Fashion Design) were awarded in the Fashion Design Contest, where a lot of fashion designers, who are to become the oncoming generation of Korean fashion industry, met together.

Seo yu-gyung, a KIU student in the School of Design, and Kim Nam-hyuk, a graduate of the same school, had the honor of winning the silver and bronze prizes in the 5th Fashion Design Contest on Oct.4(Tuesday) which was held at Fashion Design Development Support Center.

The Fashion Design Contest is the largest ceremony in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Region and was hosted by Daegu City and Gyeongsangbuk-do.  Also, the contest was supervised by the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Fashion Industry Cooperative Union and it is held annually to discover and bring up the oncoming generation of fashion designers who are to lead the Korean fashion industry.

As the 5th contest this year, the contest gave awards to a total of 19 winners. The winners were selected through the initial screening of portfolio and the second screening of real art. They were given Gold-Silver-Bronze prizes, participation awards, and special prizes with a trophy, prize money or a certificate of award.

Silver prize winner Seo Yu-gyung, prepared for her work with the title of ‘Volcanic Erupt’ and was praised for appearing her potential individuality and attraction through expressing forms of volcanic eruption. She used various fabrics with which she could indicate the folded silhouette and structural metamorphosis of volcanic eruptions.

Seo Yu-gyung, an accomplished designer, has won many prizes and delivered her impression, “I just made a lot of effort to submit my work with a challenging spirit. I am now very happy with the result that I could win a prize. Now and forever, I will do my best more to become a talented designer.”

Kim Nam-hyuk, who won a bronze prize, has been periodically coached by Professor Lee Ju-young(School of Design) and received a lot of advice on start-up and art competition even after his graduation. For the purpose of raising global competitiveness, 5 high-rank winners including Kim Nam-hyuk got the privilege of researching the European market and also were entitled to participate in China(Dalian) International Garment and Textile Fair.

Professor Lee Ju-young, who advised this contest, delivered a message the students, “I am very pleased that many students could achieve good results. With this as a momentum to widen their vision and capability as designers, I hope that they will become strenuous designers who have a challenging attitude in the future.”

KIU’s School of Design (Major Fashion Design) has cultivated excellent designers who are sensitive to changing fashion trends and who have a variety of practical capabilities by making students experience various field practices and participate in a lot of competitions apart from regular classes.
