The Integrated Exhibition of the College of Arts and Sports, the Festival in Which a Variety of Genres Converge to Create a Synergistic Effect

The university graduation exhibition is evolving to lead the trend of the times. Breaking away from the existing framework of formalized departmental exhibitions, such an exhibition is grabbing attention. A new attempt is being introduced, through industry-university cooperation, along with the convergence of diverse genres from various majors.

The College of Arts and Sports at Kyungil University (President Jung, Hyun-Tae) is holding the '2016 KIUM Festival', which is an exhibition integrating a series of plastic arts at the Daegu Textile Complex (DTC) in Bongmu-Dong, Dong-Gu, Daegu, from November 14th(Monday) to 20th(Sunday).

The KIUM Festival is characterized not as just an ordinary exhibition, but as an integrated exhibition where an array of majors, such as: photo, media, product, visual, interior, ceramics, furniture design, fashion, beauty design, etc. are brought together, in partnership with industry. Consequently, it becomes a festival-style exhibition in which universities and companies cooperate with each other, thereby producing a synergistic effect.

This exhibition displayed approximately 200 graduation works from about 120 seniors from three schools/departments of the College of Arts and Sports. Addtionally, around 300 products from collaborative companies and the KIUM market were also exhibited. Unlike previous graduation exhibitions in which only seniors participated, all students from the College of Arts and Sports partook in the exhibition, thus being blended into one and also enjoying the genuine 'festival'.

In the exhibition hall, the audience were able to see capstone design products from the College of Arts and Sports at a single place, which included brilliant products from industrial design students, furniture/ceramics works from living design majors, photographs and videos fromf the School of Photography and Motion Pictures, and works from both the School of Design and the Department of Beauty, and so on.

In addition, the Department of Photography, which boasts nationwide recognition, will hold another exhibition in Seoul at the ARA Art Center in Seoul from November 30th(Wednesday) to December 6th(Tuesday), following its exhibition in Daegu. It will also hold a video preview at a Seoul movie theater.

On November 11th(Monday) when KIUM Festival was inaugurated, special guests including President Jung, Hyun-Tae, who participated in the opening ceremony and other activities, among which the fashion show extravaganza held by the fashion design students drew much attention from the audience in particular.

On this day, President Jung Hyun-Tae said in his words of encouragement, "This KIUM Festival is a special stage where various genres from several majors converge to create a synergistic effect." He also said, “I believe that, in the Kyungil University community, students, professors, and companies can make progress together through uninhibited collaboration.”

Ms. Kim Young-Sook, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sports, said, “KIUM Festival is not just a graduation exhibition, but a festival where all the students of arts and sports meet together.” “I believe that our students will succeed as global leaders in creating a new cultural trend,” she added.
