Exhibition of Capstone Design Educational Results and
Development of Problem-solving Skills

Kyungil University(President Chung Hyun-tae) held a ceremony called, ‘The 2016 KIU Creative Fusion Festival’, which could reveal the outcome of KIU students’ creative thinking and interdisciplinary convergence education in the KIU gymnasium on Dec. 1st(Thur.).

The KIU LINC Project team and the Engineering Education Innovation Center co-hosted this event to exhibit excellent examples of LINC projects such as the Capstone Design subject and the superior outcome of Engineering Education Innovation Center. In addition, this event was intended to showcase the students’ creative capabilities and motivate their development by awarding excellent work.

Among 180 students’ entries this time, ‘The Vertical Wall-climbing Drone’ by Lee Tae-yun and Shin Seung-min (Dept. of Applied Robotics) and ‘The 3D Contents for Treatment through VR’ by Kim Da-som (Dept. of Cyber Security) won the grand prizes at the parts of Capstone Design and Fusion-Industry Connection.

As the word ‘Capstone’ originally means the decoration placed at the top of structures, Capstone Design intends to create comprehensively planned education programs to help students prepare for graduation and to plan and produce the fruits of 4 years’ university education.

Even though the program was originally started with the goal of developing engineering students’ problem-solving skills in the format of education programs, KIU decided to expand its enforcement toward all students as well as engineering students.

KIU’s vice president of Education and Training(Kwong Joong-seang) said in his welcoming speech, “Students needed a lot of time and effort while they carried out a series of processes to investigate many kinds of problems occurring in industrial settings by themselves and looked for plans for their creative solutions. The practical knowledge generated by the results will surely become a driving force when they become members of society.”

Meanwhile, various booths such as vocational aptitude, career consulting, demonstration of 3D printers, image making for employment, and simulated job interview booths were installed as concurrent events and they gained many

participants’ positive response and added to the heated atmosphere of the festival.
