“Go around the world!” The KIU global program participants are going abroad from the 5th of January. KIU had a starting ceremony for the ‘2014 Winter Global Project’ last December and about 400 students were sent abroad for language training, volunteer work, field education, and theme based cultural learning.

Starting from the 5th of January, about 110 students will go to the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and the Philippines for a duration as short as 6 weeks to as long as 18 weeks to learn language itself. Thus, volunteer student groups have worked for the areas which were damaged by the tsunami in Iloilo in the Philippines for 3 consecutive years. From the 5th to 17th of January, KIU volunteer work groups will help in that area.

About 120 students from theme based cultural learning groups will go around the world and will experience all different kinds of culture for themselves. For those students, KIU is paying all of the round-trip airfare. Also, students are going abroad to do on-the-job training. Kim Young Min from the department of mechanical engineering is going through field exercises in AJIN USA. 13 students are being trained in the States and China. Thus, around 100 students from the KIU CK-1 project team has already been abroad to experience and learn more from the advanced countries.

The Dean of Student Affairs and Job Search Assistance Center, Ahn Seung Sub, said, “Considering the size of the university, the number of students dispatched abroad are in the highest percentile throughout the country and participants previously involved before have achieved good results in getting jobs and improving language test scores, so KIU whole-heartedly supports this program.”
