- Dreaming of a global designer with ‘Dip night’(a small dish for soy sauce) Kyungil University Industrial Design Major Soon-Woong Student, KDM 10 Selection

There is a student dreaming of becoming a global designer with his own product ‘Dip night’ (a small dish for soy sauce).

Designed by the student, 'Dip Night' is a design that symbolizes the full moon from the Korean card game. The creator of this product got the idea by looking at the level of fullness of a soy sauce dish. It was very popular at the Seoul Design Festival, Seoul Living Fair and Seoul Design Festa exhibition, and it is being sold at 1300K on Fun shop and G market.

He announced earlier this month that he was selected for the 10th Korea Design Membership (KDM). KDM is a small-scale core talent training program hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to foster global designers and sponsored by the Korean Institute of Design Promotion.

KDM graduates not only won the world's three major design awards, but also have achieved excellent results such as: employment in large corporations at home and abroad and establishment of private brands. Seung-Wook Ahn, who was selected at KDM 10, has got a chance to get closer to the goal of being a globally recognized designer.

Selected students will be provided with a 24-hour open, personal workspace, including a 3D printer and photo studio. It also provides opportunities for industry-university cooperation projects with major domestic companies such as LG, Samsung, and Philips, and participates in overseas training and workshops in the US, Europe, and Japan. In the 10th period, 17 people were finally selected through document screenings, interviews, and practical skills.

Soon-Woong failed to be chosen in the final stage in the 9th round last year, but he did not give up and prepared more thoroughly. When he created his portfolio, he did not hesitate to show a lot of works, but he tried to include a representative work and the process of completing it with plans for the future. He also showed his enthusiasm for designs by holding his own product, Dip night, at the interview site.

He is presently presenting his leadership as a representative of the KDM 10th, and is ready to prepare for the '2017 Reddot Design Competition', one of the top three design awards in the private work space at the Daegu Gyeongbuk Design Center.

"I am interested in contests, overseas trainings, workshops, and start-up support activities during the KDM activities." and "I want to become a global designer with my own idea products that have accumulated a lot of experiences.“
