Kyungil University (President Chung, Hyun-Tae) held the starting ceremony of the ‘2017 Summer Project for Cultivation of Global Talent,’ on Wednesday, June 7th, in the library auditorium, and announced that more than 350 Kyungilians were ready to have global competitiveness. About 350 students who were selected through fierce competition leave for the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and Asia for language study abroad, world explorer program by themes, and student exchange programs during the summer holidays starting June 23th.
The language study programs consists of 3 tracks; short-term, long-term, and intensive programs are conducted at Purdue University in the U.S., at Liverpool University in Britain, at University of Guelph and at King’s University College in Canada, at San Carlos University in Philippines. The participants were chosen according to their schedule and language ability, and they strengthened the basic skills in advance through a ‘Pre-Overseas Program’.
The students selected as excellent founders will visit organizations related to establishing a business and conduct market research in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. They consist of students of business incubating classes, members of business incubating circles, and students of venturing interdisciplinary studies. This will be a great help for the participants to map out their career paths because they are going to have a chance to learn basic business skills incubating in the global market.
CVCS Project Group, composed of students from the department of police & public administration and department of psychotherapy, leave to study in Hawaii to develop an eye for crime victim CARE. The participants plan to develop professional knowledge through special lectures by experts on crime victim CARE, and apply to their study and jobs through various experiences of cases and benchmarking on advanced systems.
In these student exchange programs, Korean students and foreign students will form a team, visit foreign student’s nation, where they will perform tasks such as cultural exchanges, a guide to studying in Korea, and visit local businesses. During this summer vacation, the participants are going to perform their tasks in Vietnam and China.
TParticulary, the world explorer program by themes, which was first implemented by KIU of all Korean universities, is a popular program that has been continued for 17 consecutive years. This year, 33 teams composed of more than 150 students are expected to experience various cultures around the world.
KIU has sent more than 850 students abroad per year through various overseas programs. This figure exceeds 10 percent of its total students, KIU has increased the number of participants every year and devoted to training global talents.
President of KIU said in the words of encouragement that “If you exert yourself to study in the classroom during the semester, you should be a talent who seeks the answer on the spot during the school vacation.” and “I hope you will return to school safely after you go around every corner of the global village, have wide experience, and learn a lot.”
