Kyungil University Holds Joint Fire Drill Training to Provide Hands-on Experience on How to Use a Fire Extinguisher and a Rescue Reel to Students

When the fire alarm sounded and an emergency evacuation announcement was made, many students quickly exited the student dormitory. Immediately after the fire evacuation, a fire truck, which had responded to the fire call, arrived on the scene and attempted to suppress the fire. Fire fighters, on the other side, began to transport the injured people.

Kyungil University conducted a fire evacuation drill on the morning of March 23rd (Thursday) in the student dormitory, in cooperation with the Workplace Self-Defense Fire Department, Hayang 119 Safety Center, and the Emergency Response Team of the student dormitory. In the hypothetical scenario that a fire broke out in the student dormitory of Kyungil University, training was provided in the order of initial fire report, student evacuation, fire truck dispatch, fire suppression, patient transfer, and fire extinguisher and rescue reel demonstrations.

In particular, fire fighters gave a demonstration about how to escape from the 6th floor of the Mokryeon-Gwan Building by means of the rescue reel, and then students themselves participated in the training. As soon as the fire fighters and students came down on the reel and safely landed on the ground, other students on the scene greeted them enthusiastically with a big round of applause.

"It was quite an achievement for students to learn how to use fire extinguishers and rescue reels through this training," said Mr. Shin Hyun-Hak, Director of the Hayang 119 Safety Center, in his comment on the fire escape drills. He also added, "Through repeated evacuation drills, we can prevent mass casualty incidents from happening."

“I think it was worthwhile to get to know handy life-saving tips in the case of emergencies, even though it was a little bit scary for me to evacuate the high-rise building only through the reel,” said Mr. Kim Tae-Yoon (a senior student in the Department of Police Administration) who participated in the demonstration test of the rescue reel.

"It is very important to prepare ourselves for fires and disasters in the student dormitory where more than 2,000 students live," said President Chung Hyun-Tae. "We will do everything possible to prevent casualties from occurring in cases of emergency through regular training.“
