Won a Korean Farming and Fishing Villages Literary Award
Describing the realities of stockbreeding farmhouses in a novel

 

The novel ‘The Loss of Values’, written by Minsu Jin (the picture, a male, 27-year-old senior in the Department of Library and Information Science), won the award under the title ‘2016 Farming and Fishing Villages Literary Award’ which is sponsored by the Korean Rural Community Corporation and supervised by The Korean Writers’ Association.

The Farming and Fishing Villages Literary Award advertises and chooses literary works that contain lives and hidden values of farming and fishing villages, and it had 2958 works in total. The literary works included: poetry, essays, novels and fairy tales. Mr. Jin was awarded a prize in the section of undergraduates’ novels, rewarded a certificate, a medal, and 2 million won.

The prize work, ‘The Loss of Values’ deals with conflict and the realities of cow-breeding families, using daily lives in his hometown as a motive for his work. It simply describes the families’ summer time when they are in conflict between the realities they are faced with and the dignity of life.

The Korean Rural Community Corporation published 16 awarded works including Mr. Jin’s ‘The Loss of Values’

He addressed that “Not only do I study hard to become a librarian, but I have been writing some pieces since I am ultimately dreaming of becoming a writer” and further aspired by winning the Lee Sang Literary Award.
