A KIU alumnus who has been running his business for 20 year is developing vanti-virus software with undergraduate students.

The alumnus is selling the software through his company and the man, who has been a president of a promising computer anti-virus company since 1997, has been mentoring and giving special lectures in KIU about developing anti-virus software for computer viruses in collaboration with undergraduate students.

His name is Choi Jin Hyuk and he graduated from KIU in 1997 and founded his own company Nori Lap. He was a member of the computer engineering department club for those who want to start up their own business.
He mentioned that he already selected the students who will be involved in this so called ‘KICOM Project ‘ and finished his consultations with professors. Therefore, this special project team is going to start their project on April 8th and it will run for 8 weeks every Saturday in KIU to create new anti-virus software programs. Even though he is very busy as a president of his company, he has been spending quality time with his juniors every weekend.

KICOM Vaccine is a free vaccine that is meant to cure the computers in the club activity room when he was a student in KIU. He named this vaccine after his club name. After graduation, this experience led him to start his own company Hauri, and created the vaccine ‘Buyrobot’. Since 2011, he started another company called ‘NoriLap’ and decided to collaborate with KIU students.

Nori Lap is the leading domestic company that offers investigative intelligence by restoring encrypted code for criminal investigations.

This project is going to proceed in engineering building NO.1 every Saturday from 10 A.M to 5 P.M, and then, Choi will have a question and answer session with students about studying or jobs.

During the project, KIU students are going to be in charge of developing the KICOM vaccine engine and UI. Additionally, they will also take part in analyzing malignant codes and pattern updates. The KICOM will be available at no cost and everyone can use it. KICOM will be embedded in products from Nori Lap and profits will be shared with the students.

Choi said “When I was a freshman back in my collage days, one of the seniors who worked in Seoul gave a lecture. Ever since that day, I wanted to be the one inspiring other students in KIU and it became my lifelong goal.” He added, “I am going to facilitate a working environment where KIU students can lead the project and make them not be afraid of failure so that they can be as creative as possible. “

Jo Hyun Chul, a dean of computer engineering, said that it’s not common for university students to participate actively in the R&D process involving products on sale and we can’t wait to see the innovate vaccine developed through this joint project”
