Students from Kyungil University(President Chung, Hyun-tae) came back from the work placement at AMRC(Advanced Manufacturing Research Center) which is the largest institute for high-tech manufacturing technical development in the U.K.

The KIU LINC+ Project Group(Head of the Project, Kim Hyun-woo) and KIU-MI Project Group(Head of the Project, Kang, Woo-jong) said that they did global work placement for future automobile parts which is the specialized field of KIU at AMRC of Sheffield University in the U.K. from July 16th to August 17th.

The AMRC is the largest institute for high-tech manufacturing technical development in the U.K. which was co-founded by Boeing Co. and Sheffield University in 2001. The AMRC is providing high technology development, improvement of planning & scheduling process, global networking etc. to about 140 member companies related to the high-tech manufacturing industry from global airlines such as Boeing Co., Airbus, and Rolls-Royce Ltd. to local small and medium-sized businesses.

KIU students did work placement by taking courses in 3D printing, CNC, virtual welding at AMRC. The students could have a wide range of opportunities by making products designed by themselves with a 3D printer, practicing computer aided machining and virtual welding.

Particularly, they made products at this work placement such as a window for the prevention of fine dust, an independent power reel, and a smart electric board. The window for the prevention of fine dust is automatically closed by a motor when the concentration of fine dust is higher than the standard level. The independent power reel is a device which can convert mechanical energy which is generated while the reel is spinning into electric energy. The smart electric board can sense the center of gravity with a sensor and move forward and stop using a motor.

Jeon, Sung-wook(Junior, School of Mechanical Automotive Engineering), expressed his thoughts on this work placement as follows, “The AMRC is the world-class institute on the field of 3D printing” and “It was a very precious time to experience firsthand all the courses of education, designing, and producing.”

The head of KIU LINC+ Project Group said that “This work placement was a good opportunity to cultivate some abilities for the fourth industrial revolution” and “We will provide our students with various kinds of programs for nurturing outstanding individuals.”
