- Korean-Russian students studying in the field of safety infrastructure shared ideas and visited high-tech facilities.

Korean-Russian students majoring in firefighting and safety gathered together to share opinions and held the collaborative event.

The LINC+ Committee of Kyungil University (Head, Hyun-Woo Kim) said that 'The Global Capstone Design for the New Infrastructure in the Social Safety Field' was held at the 'Russian National Firefighting University'. It is located in Saint Petersburg, Russia and was held for 9 days and 8 nights from June 23rd to July 2nd.

14 KIU students from the department of fire safety, urban infrastructure engineering, and cyber security completed the firefighting and safety program provided by the Russian National Firefighting University and co-hosted the conference with students from the Russian National Firefighting University. In the conference, 4 teams that were composed of Korean-Russian students made presentations on the results of The Global Capstone Design and included topics such as 'Alarm System to Provide Locations of Fire Extinguishers' and 'Cell Phone Fire Alarm System'. They also had an opportunity to share opinions on firefighting safety issues, and to develop ideas.

KIU students visited two places. The first was the huge shopping center known as 'Mega mall', where the global furniture company IKEA is located. The second was the State Hermitage Museum, the biggest Russian Museum, which allowed students to examine and study fire extinguishing facilities. The State Hermitage Museum has a large number of restored art work and is equipped with firefighting acpabilities to extinguish a fire with gas. They also visited the famous fire fighting-related venture company, 'Gefest' which produces products for fire detection and alarm systems. The students had an opportunity to learn about the top-level technology in the firefighting field.

"I could examine various fire extinguishing systems in Russia which has advanced firefighting and safety systems, said Bong-Gi Min, a student from the fire safety department who participated in the program. He also added, "The wireless detector system was the most impressive and I could learn and cultivate knowledge in the fire safety field by making presentations and discussing the results of The Global Capstone Design with students from the Russian National Firefighting University.

KIU has operated a student exchange program and student training program for students from the fire safety department for 5 years with the Russian National Firefighting University and made an expanded exchange agreement to have academic exchanges in the field of fire safety in May 2017.
