Having won the gold and silver medals in the Asian Games,
with congratulatory money given by the Alumni Association
 

Ms. Kim Seo-young (class of 2015, Department of Sports), a Korean national swimmer who won the gold medal in the 200-meter individual medley and the silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2018 Asian Games, visited Kyungil University, her alma mater, on September 13th(Tuesday).

Mr. Chung Hyun-tae, President of Kyungil University, and Mr. Lee Han-soo, President of the Alumni Association, warmly welcomed Ms. Kim Seo-young, who visited her alma mater, and praised her hard work and achievements. The Alumni Association of Kyungil University also awarded 5 million Korean won to her in congratulation of her achievement.

"Rather small as she is, her energy and strong will power in the face of challenges is in agreement with the image of the “trustworthy, new, and developing” elite pursued by Kyungil University," President Chung Hyun-tae stated. He also exlaimed, “I hope wins the gold medal in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, thus becoming a heroine of Korea as well as a shining star of Kyungil University.

"The excitement and pride knowing that Kim Seo-young is shouldering the future of Korea's swimming is spreading among the alumni," according to Mr. Lee Han-soo, President of the Alumni Association., “She will mark a new era in the history of alumni who have faced challenges and strived to achieve great successes.”

Ms. Kim Seo-young explained, "I always participate in the competitions with support from my alma mater treasured in my heart.“ ”I am not satisfied with my current performance and I will move toward greater goals under the guidance of my director and coach,“ Meanwhile, Ms. Kim Seo-young, from the class of 2015 in Department of Sports at Kyungil University, has arisen as a core member of the national swimming team, a prospective substitute for Mr. Park Tae-hwan, a leading national swimmer, by winning the national competitions which include the national sports festival while setting new Korean records, all while she was still in school.

Ms. Kim won the gold medal in the 200-meter individual medley, her main event of the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games, with a new Korean record of 2:08.34 in 36 years, and she also won the silver medal in her 400-meter individual medley.
