Development of technology to control the size of parking space by recognizing the type of cars at Kyungil University, An award in the field of high-technology directors at ‘IoT Idea Competition’  

At Kyungil University (President, Hyun Tae Chung), students majoring in electronics got an award in the field of high-technology directors at the ‘2018 IoT Idea Competition’ which was held at K-ICT 3D Printing Daegu Center on Oct. 15th.

The ‘2018 IoT Idea Competition’ was promoted by Daegu city and supervised by Institute of Advanced Convergence Technology, in which Sunghyun Lee (entered in 2012), Minho Lee (2014), and Hyungjin Kim (2014). They received an award in the field of high-technology directors and a prize of 500,000 won for work related to ‘2T.P.L(Time to Parking Line).’ ‘2T.P.L(Time to Parking Line)’ is a working project which that controls the size of the parking space after confirming the width of cars, by means of using a laser at the top of parking lot and a sensor which estimates the size and location of a variety of cars.

The students devised this working project to address the fact that buildings have different sized parking spaces in parking lots, and that the size of parking lots are narrow and generally lacking, so this brings about inconvenience because of inefficient parking spaces.

Specifically this system has advantages, with the prevention of car accidents, convenient parking, and maintenance and repair of parking lots since it suggests flexible parking spaces adaptable to the size of car, compared with existing parking systems.

The work at this competition was developed through ‘Capstone Design’ by the students’ efforts in the spring semester of 2018, and the LINC+ project team supported the production of its prototype. The leader of the LINC+ project team, Hyun Woo Kim said “I am glad to see that they were awarded at the contest which resulted in industry-university cooperation” and suggested “I am going to support students with every effort so that their creative ideas can be shown at a variety of contests and can be produced as a form of experimental products.
