Kyungil University (President Chung, Hyun-tae) and the Institute for Self-driving and Converging Technology (Director: Professor Kang, Woo-jong of the School of Mechanical and Automative Engineering) participated in the Daegu International Future Auto Expo(DIFA) 2018 which was held at the Daegu Convention Center from November 1 to 4, and they displayed self-driving technology.

The DIFA 2018 was co-hosted by the Daegu Metropolitan Government and the Intelligent Automobile Parts Agency. This Expo presented various events such as the Future Motor Technology Exhibition, Business Consultations and Specialist Forum, along with talks by distinguished domestic and foreign scholars and exhibits by future auto companies. Kyungil University participated in the 2018 Expo as well as in 2017.

At the event, Kyungil University showcased vehicles with self-driving technology that it has developed. Kyungil University is currently researching to develop level 4 full self-driving technology by the end of this year and is preparing to obtain a driving license for self-driving cars. When development is completed, it is likely to be the first successful case of full-scale self-driving technology in the region of Daegu and Southern Gyeongsang. To that end, the university is building and supporting the cooperation system between the LINC+ business group and the KIU-MI human resources development group.

At the forum for the exhibition, Professor Lee, Young-jin (the School of Urban Infrastructure Engineering) and Professor Yoo, Byeong-yong (the School of Mechanical and Automative Engineering) served as chairmen of the academic conference on ‘self-driving infrastructure technology’ and ‘self-driving car startups’, which was held on Nov. 2. Professor Han, Ji-hyung (Chief of Autonomous A2Z) of the institute gave a topic lecture on 'educational self-driving car platform'.

The forum led future trends in the automobile industry and policy direction, consisting of three sections and four sessions, and 80 scholars from both home and abroad were speakers on the topics.

"I am pleased to present the self-driving car and technology of Kyungil University at an international exhibition in Daegu, a leading future auto city," said Mr. Kang Woo-jong, the director of the institute. He also said, "Kyungil University will become the leading university in the future of the automobile industry through cooperation between industry, government, academia and research institutes after gathering its research capabilities within universities."
