"Towing the local automotive industry to a future high value-added industry"
Kyungil University (Chairman Chung Hyun Tae) held a ceremony on the first floor of the Industrial-Academic Cooperation Center at 2 p.m. on December 6.
At the opening ceremony, more than 200 officials from government, industry, and academia attended the opening ceremony such as Chung Hyun-tae, president of Kyungil University, Kim Jeong-woo, president of Daegu University, deputy governor of North Gyeongsang Province, Kim Han-sik, chief of the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province Small and Medium Business Administration, Choi Dae-jin, deputy mayor of Gyeongsan City, Lee Jae-hoon, head of Gyeongbuk Techno Park, Won-Hwan, director of the Institute of Technology for North Gyeongsang Province's Imbeddedication Technology, and Yong-dong.
At the opening ceremony, which was conducted in the order of introduction and promotion plan of research institute, tape cutting, a facility tour, and technical exchange meetings, the test drive of self-driving electric vehicle at level 4 developed by Kyungil University were carried out as well. Kyungil University's self-driving car convergence technology institute succeeded in developing advanced automation technologies that correspond to four out of five self-driving technologies by modifying electric vehicles' D2.
The guests who test-drive the self-driving car in school praised the self-driving technology of the Kyungil University, which has reached the level 4 of the International Association of Motor Engineers (SAE).
"We are not satisfied with the current self-driving electric vehicle technology and are planning to develop technology that can develop and operate shuttle buses next year by adding urban self-driving functions. The shuttle buses can operate two kilometers from Kyungil University three-way intersection to in campus," said Kang Woo-jong, a head of the self-driving car convergence technology institute.
"Based on the high technological prowess of Kyungil University's self-driving car convergence technology institute and the cooperation and exchange of technology between government, industry and academia will be a stepping stone for the development of the local auto industry into a future high value added industry," said President Chung Hyun-tae in a welcoming speech.
