All four students participating in the exposition won prizes with brilliant ideas such as a pill-type foaming cleanser, a mat used to determine if someone has dementia and so on, which is the result of the program, ‘Self-application camp’.

Four students from KIU participated in the ‘2019 Korea International Women’s Invention Exposition’ organized by the Korea Women Inventors Association and Korea Invention Promotion Association, and won the gold, silver, bronze and special award. From June 20 to June 23, the International Women’s Invention Exposition held in KINTEX, Ilsan exhibited about 350 inventions from 29 countries. Four students selected through ‘Self-application camp’ were honored with the gold, silver, two bronze prizes and a special award.

The gold prize-winning work which Son Gyeongdeuk (junior, Department of K-Beauty & Cosmetology) invented is a pill-type foaming cleanser. She made the pill-type foaming cleanser which has decreased volume and high portability by adding the enzyme powder to a soap. If the item is ready for the market, it would be useful for workers who go on frequent business trips, travelers, and inpatients. The pill-type foaming cleanser was chosen as the gold prize as well as the special prize(a prize awarded by the president of Dongguk University) because of the practicality of the idea.

The silver prize-winning work which Moon Jihye(sophomore, Department of Gerokinesiology) invented is a mat used to determine if someone has dementia. The mat has 12 scaffolds in which pressure sensors are inserted and measures the cognitive ability through the 10-level step exercise by using the flash sensor, input sensor, and Arduino. The item is in the process to apply for a patent related to the senior sports.

Kim Eunjin(junior, Department of K-Beauty & Cosmetology) was awarded the bronze prize with the separate-type dual magnetic makeup brush. She invented the multipurpose brush by attaching a magnet to a makeup brush. Lim Yuli(sophomore, Department of Gerokinesiology) invented the smart band which gives a alarm when the heart rate slows down. She was also awarded the bronze prize.

KIU LINC+ has been holding the ‘Self-application camp’ in which KIU students participate. Students’ practical ideas from the camp are linked to patents, which results in around 70 patent applications that have been filed so far. The four students who won the prizes had been selected as excellent applicants for a patent and participated in International Women’s Invention Exposition. Kim, Hyun-woo (Head of LINC+ project team) said “Students were awarded prizes in the exposition which many companies participated in, which shows the good performance of the program, ‘Self-application camp’.” and suggested “ I am going to provide support in securing students’ intellectual property right through the various follow-up programs.”
