subjectStudents in the Departments of Smart Food Tech and Food Development were Honored by Kyungbuk Province Governor

The teams 'The Recipe' and 'Ttaeggulluk' respectively consisting of students of the Departments of Food Development and Smart Food Tech in Kyungil University (President, Hyun Tae Jung) won the Excellent Prize (awarded by a province governor) and Prize for Encouragement in 'the briefing session of Kyungsangbuk-do 반학반어(半學半漁) which is a test-run program for the youth settlement. The president handed down the governor prize and encouraged the students at his office on Dec. 23 (Monday).

'반학반어(半學半漁) youth settlement program' is the project in which a young generation brings a new energy in a sea village having difficulties according to the decrease in opportunity for earnings. It also leads to a later settlement for the students who can experience sea villages.

In the briefing session held at the Kyungbuk provincial office, Kyungil University students presented the results of the project and what they felt about it since they visited the sea villages, Pohang and Kampo for four months and communicated with their local residents.

The team 'The Recipe' reported the process of how they developed the recipe for the modern people's eating and life styles by utilizing the local special products, octopus and persimmon. Moreover, the participants had a great time to try on octopus steak and persimmon rice ball, and gave a favorable comment.

Chae Won Seo (Dep. of Smart Food Tech, freshman) in the team 'The Recipe' said "I could develop a recipe easy and delicious because I visited the village with my team members every weekend, made a market research, bought octopuses at a resonable price, and ripened and reserved them at a low temperature. I hope that this program can make the youth interested in sea villages." The other team 'Ttaeggulluk' presented the process of how they developed the freeze-dried solid powder that can be used for the modern people to cook in a easy way by making use of sea foods in the area of Kampo. The students developed 'a grain of Kampo' which is natural ingredients and displayed its pilot products, so got a limelight. The professor Ji Woon Nam who advised her students reflected on three-month project, saying that "It was valuable for my students to commute from school and sea village every week, to develop by communicating with village residents, and to think over how to initiate sea villages." The president Hyun Tae Jung complimented them "This experience, a success on the development of pilot products as local special products will support the students with the goal of becoming a man of ability in the area of food industry after their graduation."
