Appointment of the first coach, Tae-jin Son, who won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics

Kyungil University (President Hyun Tae Jeong) decided to establish the Taekwondo Team and held an inaugural ceremony in the conference room of the main building on the 11th.

Tae-jin Son, a gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Taekwondo - Men's 68kg, was appointed as the first coach. Coach Sohn, who is majoring in Taekwondo (Ph.D. completion), has been appointed as a professor in the Department of Sports at Kyungil University along with the position of Taekwondo team director.

Kyungil University started recruiting athletes with the formation of the Taekwondo team, and from next year it is planning to open a Taekwondo major within the School of Sports.

In addition to winning the Beijing Olympic Taekwondo gold medal, the first coach Tae-jin Son won the Olympic Taekwondo gold medal in ��� Excellence award in the competition of the Korean Sports Association in 2009 ��� Gold medal in the 1st Sports Accord Combat Game in 2010 ��� Winning the First International Club Open Taekwondo Competition ��� Men's 68kg victory at the final competition of the national team. As well, Son has a brilliant career, such as a taekwondo commentator for the Brazil Rio Olympics and Jakarta Asian Games, a taekwondo competition instructor for the World Federation, and a competition instructor for the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.

President Hyun Tae Chung gave a bouquet of flowers and the team flag of the KIU sports team to the first director Tae-jin Son and encouraged him, saying, "I hope that Kyungil University will be the cradle of fostering talent in the taekwondo field by fully exercising its golden kick power and leadership that commanded the world."

"Through systematic training and guidance, I will do my best to help promising taekwondo athletes through Kyungil University in order to shine the region and further dominate the world championships," said Tae-jin Son, director and professor of the institute.
