The 34th Korean Olympiad in Informatics organized by the Ministry of Science, the ICT, and the National Information Society Agency was held at Kyungil University on Saturday, July 22nd. The Korean Olympiad in Informatics is Korea's most prestigious competition for informatics where next-generation’s software talents create programs and solve problems based on their ability to think when computing.
Among the 5,500 applicants nationwide, only 600 participants in elementary, middle, and high school passed the 17 city and provincial preliminaries to participate in this Olympiad. On July 21st, at Kyungil University’s indoor gymnasium, participants attended the orientation, checked their computers, and solved sample questions to test the submission program for their answers. The following day, they fought intensely on the ability to implement computer algorithms.
Chung Hyun-tae, president of Kyungil University, said, "We have been giving support to this Olympiad for the purpose of helping talented students who will be responsible for the future of Korea to fully demonstrate their talents.” He hoped that the Korean Olympiad in Informatics can become a birthplace of great talent to continue Korea’s reputation of its IT power. "
The Korean Olympiad in Informatics, which started from the National PC Competition in 1984, has been searching for outstanding students who have talent and enthusiasm for programming and SW development for 34 years. Furthermore, the Korean Olympiad has been playing host to future ICT talents’ birthplace by helping them to attend international competitions such as the 'International Olympiad in Informatics' and the 'Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Informatics' on behalf of the Republic of Korea.
