The LIPE (Life-cycle Infrastructure Performance Enhancement by ICT Convergence-HRD, Faculty of Construction Engineering and Architecture)project team, which is attended by the Department of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Construction Engineering of Kyungil University, earned the highest grade "A“ in the 3rd year's annual evaluation of the specialization project of the provincial university (CK-Ⅰ) conducted by the Korea Research Foundation.
The annual evaluation, in its third year, was conducted based on the results of the third year and the project plans for the 4th and 5th years. The evaluation was conducted for 95 universities and 261 project teams nationwide, and according to the results, they were classified into A, B and C grades. Kyungil University LIPE project team received the excellent evaluation in most indicators such as performance management, curriculum construction and operation, and reflection of community’s demands.
Kyungil University's LIPE project team is the only project team specializing in construction in Daegu, Kyungbuk and Kangwon-do. It includes students in architectural engineering, architecture, and construction engineering. Based on the analysis of currently changing construction industry and demands of local construction company, Kyungil University's LIPE project team made the specialized curriculum. Furthermore, based on the needs of local construction companies, students, and society, they are maximizing the effects of specialized education in the construction field through on-site field trips, special lectures on majors, and mentoring.
Last semester, approximately 50 students went on a field trip to Jeju Island. They participated in the Jeju city's architectural city conference and learned technical information and job information in the field of architecture city, and toured the field which makes use of advanced ICT technology. During summer vacation, 20 students participated in handling training on drones which is a unmanned flight device, learned how to use drones on the construction and civil engineering sites, and how to use those to manage facilities.
"The results of this evaluation are the result of the efforts of all members of the project team for the specialized education," said Kim Doo-yeon, head of the LIPE project team and professor of construction engineering department at Kyungil University. "We will continue to make efforts to nurture the talented in cutting-edge ICT convergence.“
The LIPE project team of Kyungil University (CK-1) has trained a specialized workforce who can integrate information technology (IT) and construction technology (CT) from the initial planning stage of the facility to the stage of construction, maintenance and demolition, which leads to improvement of 4S-Spatial, Safe, Sustainable, Smart performance of facilities.
