Kyungil University (President Chung Hyun-tae) announced that Ms. Kim, Su-Min, Ms. Ahn, Da-Young, Ms. Oh, Yeon-Ok and Ms. Yoo Sun-Young, all of whom are juniors majoring in Industrial Design in the Design Department, were selected as members of the 'Special Youth Design Task Force 4.0' under the auspices of Gyeongbuk Province. The selected students will be awarded a grant of about 10 million won from the matching company, New GK Food Inc., and Gyeongbuk Province, from September to December, and they will start developing product package designs.
The 'Special Youth Design Task Project 4.0' sponsored by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Economic Promotion Agency is divided into two parts, which are, 'Corporate Design' which provides design services for companies in the province, and 'Village Design' which attracts people to rural areas by designing the village stories and companies. Eight corporate design teams (32 people) and five village design teams (20 people) have been selected for the first time this year.
Students from Kyungil University started preparing for the corporate design part during the summer vacation, and made an application form and portfolios for about two weeks. The portfolios included corporate brand design projects that students had done during the class. It seems that they have received a high score for accurately grasping the image of a company such as a food service company or a manufacturing company and thus developing a suitable design for the image.
The corporate design section in which they partake is a field that helps the company to enhance its value by not only by making its presence known to the consumers through the establishment of the brand identity, but also by eliminating the design difficulties such as product and visual design for the company. At present, students are in the process of discussing the development of product package design with their matching meat-processing company, New JK Food Inc. in Cheong-Do.
In the future, students will conduct design development work for more than 6 hours a day, 4 days a week, and continuously meet clients with their advisors once a week. The main goals are to establish brand identity of New GK Food Inc., to raise the honest image of the company, and to increase brand value through the development of product package design.
Ms. Ahn, Da-Young (Class of 2015, 22 years of age) said, “I hope I will be able to make a contribution to the enhancement of the added value and corporate competitiveness through design development in cooperation with New GK Food Inc.” She also added that she would like to be selected as the winner in the final evaluation in December and also to participate in the MAISON & OBJET PARIS fair, one of the world’s grandest interior design exhibitions.”
Her supervisor, Professor Ryu, Ji-Heon said, “We will help students develop product package design that meets the needs of matching companies.” He also said, “In the future, we will encourage and direct various projects in which students can participate in direct collaboration with companies so that we may train professional manpower that is required in the field.”
