The Fire Safety Department, and Emergency Department in Kyungil University(president Hyun-Tae Chung) are getting attention as a cradle for firefighters. It is reported that 15 students from the Fire Department and 8 from the Emergency Department at KIU have passed the fire test in the first half of 2017.

Not only did 15 students from Fire Safety Department from the first half of this year pass the test, but 21 students from last year have also passed the required test for firefighters. If the number of students is counted who are expected to pass the second half of the exam, it is expected to have more successful students than those of last year.

Since the Emergency Department was launched as the first four-year department in Yeungnam Province in 2011, 15 students have become firefighters from the 2015 first graduation class. The passing rate of the requirement test for civil servants is about 25%. That means, only one out of 4 graduates from the Emergency Department in KIU passes the examination for the fire officer. These results are noteworthy because there are other students who take various career paths besides civil servants.

One of the biggest achievements of the Fire and Emergency department is that developing human resources capable of putting in field right after graduation. Therefore, KIU has become known as the cradle for firefighters and officers. It has been possible with support from KIU as well as the students’ efforts and support from the Ministry of Education.

The Fire and Safety Departments operate certification lectures, the 'GO-FIRST' project which is a specialized business class from the Ministry of Education. In addition, both Fire and Emergency Departments are carrying out CPR training and inspections for the elderly and children's welfare facilities in the area through the TOBE Innovator project.

The Dean of Fire Department, Kim Myeong-Cheol said, "Educational quality in Fire and Safety Department is among the best with the eleven full-time faculty members and educational facilities in the nation," He explained, “With this advantage, KIU will be the mecca of firefighting science in the future.

Also, Yeung-Hwa Kim, the head of the Emergency Department, said, "KIU has the highest rate for passing the test in the nation, and is willing to support students to be leaders in the emergency medical system" .
