- Senior Sports Team from the KIU Sports Department held Senior Olympic Games
- LINC + 'TOBE Innovator' that coexists with the region

 

The 'elderly physical education team', led by students from the 'active aging lab' and supervised by professor Kim Kyung-Oh of Kyungil University, has organized a sports program for the elderly and contributed to their physical training. The elderly physical education team has been carrying out a physical education program at the welfare center, making use of a Nintendo game machine, hand massage, and terra band. Furthermore, they have also been a winner of the Grand Prize in the Entrepreneurial Notes section of the National Entrepreneurship Competition.

The elderly physical education team held the 'Senior Olympics' for the elderly in Gyeongsan in the Welfare Center of Gyeongsan City on November 3rd. There were sports courses such as gateball, table tennis, billiards, and pocketball, as well as hobby courses such as janggi and go. In addition, Exercises making use of terra bands, a Nintendo game console, and hand massages were added to the existing programs. It offered a variety of enjoyable opportunities to the local elders, providing exercises in the festive atmosphere.

The Republic of Korea is moving into an aging society at an unprecedented rate among the members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Given that it is a disgrace to be the fastest aging population in the world, the elderly sports team's activities are also in line with the TOBE Innovator project of the LINC + project, which aims to increase community revitalization and innovation.

Lee Sang-Bong, the director of the Gyeongsan city Elderly Welfare Center said, "Since March this year, students from Kyungil University who are part of the elderly physical education team have been working on a health exercise program that uses tools like Nintendos and terra bands at the welfare and health center every week“. He added, "As the elders have the greatest interest in health, they are participating in the exercise professionally and systematically with personalized guidance by students who majored in sports”. He also mentioned "Kyungil University first proposed the idea of a Senior Olympic Games , and we have made full use of students' knowledge and could provide seniors with health and enjoyment. I am sure that we could develop a new industry-university cooperation model.”

Professor Kim graduated from the School of Photography and Video at Kyungil Univeristy. Afterwards, he received his master’s and doctor’s degrees from the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science of Chung-Ang University, with his thesis on the development of photographic techniques for scientific investigation, which is based on photographic science. He has been a member of the editorial committee and steering committee of the Korean Academy of Scientific Criminal Investigation, the Society of Korean Photography, and the Society of Modern aPhotography & Video. In addition, he has been a steering committee member of the 5th Daegu Photography Biennale.

Choi Jun-Young, the senior team leader of the elderly athletic team, said, "We will make efforts to improve individual competence through continuous volunteer activities and athletic programs through the guidance and meetings of professor Kim Kyung-Oh of the sports department and to publicize the elderly physical education team at Kyungil University nationwide."
