- Traveling around remote areas in about 20 countries in search of images related to the enjoyment of romance under starlight

Kim Yoo-Jin (45-year-old male in the photo), a photographer and professor of the School of Photography and Video at Kyungil University, is hosting his first solo exhibition at the art gallery ‘Toma’ located on Kim Kwang-Suk Memorial Mural Road.

This work, which has been prepared for many years, is on exhibition under the title of 'SOMEWHERE on The Earth'. Professor Kim, as a photographer who is working specially on scientific materials, traveled to over 20 countries in Oceania, Africa, and the Americas. It took more than 50 flights and countless hours for him to complete his work.

Because of the difficulty in finding dark places in nature without light pollution , there have been many interesting episodes. In the Australian desert, he had a heart-pounding experience with a group of animals whose blue eyes were looking directly at him. Frightened at the roaring sound of a lion at a short distance, he once hid himself in a tent with his camera left out in the open in a field in Namibia.

Professor Kim Yoo-Jin said, "I wanted to find images of us which demonstrated the theme of romance and leisure under the starlight." He expressed his feelings toward the exhibition by saying that his work was based on the records of journeys in pursuit of both the dim recollection of starlight that the city lights have taken away and the invisible yearnings.

Professor Kim graduated from the School of Photography and Video at Kyungil Univeristy. Afterwards, he received his master’s and doctor’s degrees from the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science of Chung-Ang University, with his thesis on the development of photographic techniques for scientific investigation, which is based on photographic science. He has been a member of the editorial committee and steering committee of the Korean Academy of Scientific Criminal Investigation, the Society of Korean Photography, and the Society of Modern aPhotography & Video. In addition, he has been a steering committee member of the 5th Daegu Photography Biennale.

He participated in the production of commercials for Canon cameras with photos and videos work of the lunar eclipses in 2014. With his work, titled ‘Desert in Namibia’, he also won the grand prize in this year's International Invitation Exhibition which was jointly organized by the Korean Society of Basic Design & Art and the Asia Society of Basic Design & Art.

This exhibition will be held until November 19th.
