- KIU hosts an exhibition on students’ creative works, KIU family products, and school promotion

The LINC+ committee of Kyungil University (President Hyun-Tae Chung) participated in the “2017 Ho Chi Minh-Gyeongju World Expo,” which started on October 10th in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. In the Expo, the committee displays students’ creative works, promotes them, and provides counsel on export opportunities. They also host an exhibition of KIU family business products and school promotions to attract foreign students.

KIU students’ works are displayed in a permanent exhibition hall. The four works, inspired by North Gyeongsang Province’s great cultural heritage, will hopefully contribute to cultural and industrial exchanges with Vietnam. In September this year, those were selected as excellent works in North Gyeongsang Province-Vietnam KOLLABO contest. Through this experience, the students can show their original ideas and works while building global competence.

Students’ works include business card cases, bookmarks, pottery, and canvas bags. Both the business card cases and bookmarks have an image of the Cheomseongdae Observatory as it is one of the most famous symbols of Gyeongju. The pottery which was used as an ornament and a container of water or liquor is shaped after a turtle, a symbol of Gumi. The canvas bag is embroidered with grapes, lotus, crape myrtle, and cauliflower; the flowers which symbolize the four seasons in Gyeongju. Particularly, as the lotus is Vietnam’s national flower, it will help deepen a mutual understanding between the two countries.

In addition to students’ works, an exhibition of KIU family businesses displays C&Tech’s gas leak detection valve and rifle type loaded stream fire extinguisher, Dongcheon Tech Inc.’s environmentally friendly multipurpose cleaner, PureCell Korea Inc.’s cosmetics, and BTech Korea Inc.’s aeration tank system for green wastewater treatment.

Moreover, participating in an information fair, KIU’s Center for International Programs runs a promotional booth. This will help promote the university worldwide and actively attract foreign students.

“This expo is a chance to enhance the university’s competitiveness and promote cooperation between industry, university, and institute,” Hyun-Woo Kim, the LINC+ committee leader, says. “We hope that students with creative ideas have business opportunities, which leads to value creation.”
