Kyungil University (President Jung Hyun-Tae) announced that they held the '7th Kyungil University Nursing College Nightingale Pledge Ceremony' at the library auditorium on November 17th.
There were more than 400 people present in the ceremony, including President Jung Hyun-Tae, Professor Yang In-Sook, the Dean of the Nursing College, the Director of Gyeongbuk Provincial Elderly Care Nursing Hospital, the Director of the Nursing Department of Semyeong Hospital. Parents were also in attendance encouraging the students who took the first step as student nurses.
The Nightingale Pledge Ceremony is intended for sophomores of the Department of Nursing who are supposed to be sent for clinical training at hospitals and public health clinics. In the ceremony, they take a pledge for service and sacrifice, with lit candles in their hands, in keeping with the spirit of love and service by Ms. Nightingale. A senior, who shows good behavior and earns excellent grades, is selected to serve as the ‘Nightingale’ who performs the candle lighting ceremony. In the ceremony, Ms. Kang Hee-Jung, a senior, was chosen as the ‘Nightingale’ and lit the candles.
114 sophomores from the Department of Nursing took a vow “to take over the spirit of Ms. Nightingale’s nursing care and self-sacrifice and also to devote themselves to the well-being of those who receive nursing care". The ceremony was followed by a gift presentation ceremony conducted by the seniors and the congratulatory songs sung by the freshmen, thereby encouraging the sophomores. In the ceremony, President Jung Hyun-Tae said, "During the past seven years, the Department of Nursing at Kyungil University has achieved both quantitative and qualitative growth through students’ efforts, parents’ care, and professors’ enthusiastic education.” He also said, "We hope that students will grow into both professional and heartwarming nurses, as they will be able to receive higher quality education in the one and only nursing college which has been revamped and refurbished into a training facility.“
On the other hand, the Department of Nursing at Kyungil University is trying to nurture international nursing personnel with well-rounded personality and practical skills.
