- Kyungil University Provided Foreign Students with a Special Lecture about Kyungsan-si and a Visit to a Museum

Kyungil University (President, Hyun Tae-Chung) announced that they have held a special program about Kyungsan City for foreign students living in Kyungsan on the 24th (Friday). 23 foreign students from Kyungil University, Daegu Catholic U., Daegu Haany U., and Yeungnam U., took in a special lecture about Kyungsan City presented by professor Kee Joong-Sung in a seminar room of the Kyungil U. library, which was followed by a series of visits to a Kyungsan-si Museum and the Samseonghyeon History and Culture Park.

This program was supposed to introduce ‘Kyungsan-si’ to foreign students living in the Kyungsan area, letting them learn about the culture and history of the area in which they are staying, and further play a role of a promotional ambassador as they return to their native countries.

In the morning, Kee Joong-Sung gave them the special lecture, and as a professor in the Department of Police Administration, he has been operating the ‘Kyungsan-hak Research Institute’, an adjunct research center of Kyungil U. and is currently president of the Kyungsan-Hak Association.

Due to his research and experiences, he had many stories to tell. He told stories about Kyungsan-si easily enough for foreign students to understand. Particularly, he explained about major agricultural products and cultural/tourist attractions, and even festivals that drew the interest of the foreign students.

In the afternoon, they visited the ‘Kyungsan City Museum’ which is displaying valuable data showing the history and the culture of Kyungsan from prehistoric to modern times. Then, they visited the Samseonghyeon History and Culture Park in which they could learn about the spirits and the meanings of Samseonghyeon (Wonhyo, Sulcheong, and Ilyeon). In that park, the students listened to a museum tour guide and experienced a variety of Korean folk games.

The foreign students who participated in this program said that they were glad to know new information of Kyungsan and were impressed by the museum, history and culture center, and folk games.

Meanwhile, Kyungil University is open to a course ‘Understanding of Kyungsan-hak’ as liberal arts, and is operating the ‘Kyungsan-hak Research Institute.’ It studies the historical processes Kyungsan-si has experienced, tries to figure out solutions for the residents’ present problems, and advises or attempts research on the future of Kyungsan-si, ultimately contributing to improving the residents’ lives.
