- Bike safety accident prevention with technology a prominent idea
- Kyungil University’s start-up club wins grand prize at University Entrepreneurship Competition

Resistance Inductance Capacity (RLC), a start-up club of Kyungil University's LINC + Business group, won the Grand Prize (Small and Medium Venture Business Minister Award) at the 6th G-Star University Entrepreneurship Competition held at the Chunma Art Center Chamber Hall, Yeungnam University.

The 'G-Star University Entrepreneurship Competition' is sponsored by the Gyeongbuk Creative Economic Innovation Center and sponsored by the Small and Medium-sized Venture Business Department, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gumi City, and Samsung Electronics. Twenty-two universities entered this competition and fiercely competed. Kyungil University founder club RLC (Advisor Professor Park Gwang-Seo) received a prize of 1 million won and a prize from the Minister of Small and Medium-sized Venture Company for a product called "Non-contact type eddy current brake for bicycles".

'Noncontact Eddy Current Brakes for Bicycles' are products that can prevent accidents caused by a bicycle’s rapid brakes, steep slopes, rain or snow using the eddy current reducer. In order to prevent jackknifing, the eddy current reducer used for trailers and trucks of 25 tons or more is miniaturized and applied to bicycles.

The brakes have many advantages over conventional frictional brakes that reduce speed with friction. There is no friction noise because there is an eddy current instead of frictional force, and there is no wear on the brake pad or rim. In addition, it is possible to prevent the decrease of braking ability in case of rain, and it is possible to maintain constant speed on a steep slope. This is expected to greatly reduce bike safety accidents.

RLC was founded in April and is a coalition of 43 students from various fields, including; Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Food Science and Industry, and Geoinformatics Engineering. They have continuously created good ideas and have been able to materialize these ideas with the support of the LINC + Business start-up club. As a result, they filed ten patents in seven months.

RLC President Yang Min-Kyu of the Electrical Engineering Department, 4th grade, said, "in the future, we plan to make eddy current brakes compatible with the brackets of various bicycles. We aim to establish companies in the field of technology manufacturing.” He also said, “we plan to use the prize money as a fund for patent applications.”

Kim Hyun-Woo, the head of the LINC + project team at Kyungil University, said, "We are delighted that the start-up club RLC, which was uncovered and supported by the LINC + project team, won the Grand Prize (Minister of Small Business Venture Company). In the future, we will strengthen Kyungil University's unique entrepreneurial education and linkage programs so that students' creative ideas can lead to actual start-ups.”
