- The first mandatory CPR training in the nation will begin in KIU.
- It will apply to freshmen from next year and all current students.
- Liberal arts curriculum will be greatly reorganized to emphasize on safety, fourth industrial revolution, and personality education.

Kyungil University (President Chung Hyun-Tae) designated the CPR course which is 1 credit as a mandatory curriculum for the first time in the nation. From next year, it will apply to the freshmen and all current students. In addition, in order to prepare for the 4th Industrial Revolution, coding courses which is 2 credits are designated as liberal arts required courses.

Recently, the curriculum committee of Kyungil University has changed the course of liberal arts curriculum focusing on 'safety', '4th industrial revolution' and 'personality'. First of all, it is noteworthy that the education for 'cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid treatment' is conducted for all students for the first time in a university nationwide. Recently, as the frequency of emergency patients increased due to earthquakes and various incidents and accidents, there is a growing interest in first aid for 4 minutes of Golden Time. In this situation, 'Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid' are designated as compulsory subjects in the curriculum of Kyungil University.

A total of 8,000 full-time students will be able to reduce the mortality rate of patients with cardiac arrest by completing a total of 15 hours of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid treatment. It will be of great help to the emergency and safety of the university as well as the community. Kyungil University is the only 4-year university which established and has operated Department of Emergency Medical Technology in Yeongnam since 2010. Furthermore, the BLS-TS center in the university has been continuing the CPR program for the teachers in cooperation with the Office of Education.

The reorganization of liberal arts curriculum in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution cannot be missed. It is making a full-scale move, such as the establishment of new liberal arts curriculum and the full implementation of coding education in order to foster multifaceted talent who will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution.

First of all, a liberal arts course called '4th Industrial Revolution and Future Society' (2 credits) is established. It is a liberal arts course that covers the keywords of AI, autonomous driving car, Internet of things, Smart Factory, etc. It will start from the seasonal semester in this winter. From the regular semester next year, through "Computing Thoughts and Problem Solving" course which is compulsory subjects of 2credits, coding training will be carried out. A number of courses related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as 'Fourth Industrial Revolution and Future Society', 'Brain Science Story', 'Robot and Society' will be opened.

In particular, to be able to cultivate fusion talent, engineering students should take 'Engineering and Management' courses and non-engineering students should take 'Fourth Industrial Revolution and Future Society' courses as compulsory courses. It is because Engineering students need to understand humanities, and humanities students must understand engineering.

As Steve Jobs' Apple was born as a meeting between engineering and humanities, this curriculum reorganization is expected to bring new educational value to students with broad perspectives and creative ideas.

The finale of the reorganization of liberal education curriculum at Kyungil University is strengthening personality education. All students are required to complete one of the following compulsory courses: Internet Ethics, Bioethics, or Engineering Ethics to graduate.

President Chung Hyeon-Tae said, “Safety and prevention are top priorities of the Ministry of Education's policy, as evidenced by the postponement of the SAT test which was caused by the Pohang Earthquake.” He added, "I decided to give CPR education to all students because it was possible to utilize the excellent manpower of Emergency Medical Technology department in the university. In addition, Kyungil University is leading the way to establish a related course, including coding education, at a time when the national anticipation is so urgent that the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee will be established at the pan-government level.“
