- Four Visual Design Majors in Kyungil University Selected for the Excellent Team of Young Adults Design Commandos in the Area of KyungBuk Province

There was a shout of joy, “Wow, Paris in France!” in the practice room of the Department of Design in Kyungil University that is just around the corner. That is because four students were selected for the ‘Young Adults Design 4.0 Commando’ in the KyungBuk area last September based on their awarded excellence, and are planning to go to France for a field tour.

The students are scheduled to participate in the ‘2018 Maison & Objet’, which is being held from January 19th to 23rd and learn about foreign advanced design trends during 6nights and 7days. The‘Maison & Objet Fair,’ the best exhibition in the world, is a good place for design-major students to see worldwide life style design trends. They are going to be provided with their entire travel expenses including airfare, lodging expenses, etc.

Visual design majors (all juniors from Kyungil U.), Sum-In Kim, Da-young Ahn, Yeon-Ok Oh, and Sun-Young Yoo are so excited to leave for Paris. They are anxious for the tour and to witness the design fair, view Paris at night, see the Eiffel Tower, eat macaroons, and they smiled with holding their five works of the package design. It took four months for them to complete their works. It was not easy nor a big pleasure to develop the product package design by matching with New GK Foods Ltd., a meat manufacture business that is located in Chung Do, in Kyung Buk province. With a money allocation of 10 million won from New GK Foods Ltd. and Kyung Buk, the students felt a lot of responsibility to take the job. They even tried to their best to deal with conflicts and differences in opinion harmoniously when consulting about designs with businesses. This was their first experience, so it was quite difficult for them handle certain situations, but they said that they had lots of advantages, such as obtaining responsibility, the ability to settle conflicts, and the ability to communicate.

In addition, they were all taking classes and also had many meetings with their advisor and clients for design development once a week. First of all, they suggested the product package design direction to the clients, got feedback from them, and made some revisions over and over again. Sometimes, every team member stayed all night to work because they were too busy with taking classes, especially at the period of midterm and final exams. During the day they prepared for the exams, and worked together to develop their given design assignments and at night, completely satisfied their clients’ needs.

After completing package design developments, the students and their advisor are now happy for further reques t of interior field from New GK Foods. The team leader, Da-Young Ahn, (Junior,22-years old) said that “all team members were so interested in designing brand and package products that they could enjoy it although they were very tired. I am so glad that the all nights’ works made contribution to an overall good result, and will widen my knowledge in France.”

The advisor, Ji-Hun Rhy, addressed that “this opportunity made students take their own roles and figure out clients’ needs, enabling them to learn about practical experiences that they couldn’t have in the classroom. In the future, I am going to discover more activities associated with businesses, and support my design majored students so that they can compete with others in the design field.”
